How To Start & Manage A Poshmark Closet With Consistent Daily Habits
If you have ever looked at your closet and attempted to clear it out or organize it and wondered, “Why is all this stuff I never wear still hanging here and taking up space?” starting a Poshmark closet might be something you should consider. For most of us, it is not about making huge money, it’s about turning what you are not using into extra money. It is flexible and you can do it on your own time and your own schedule. It is simple, doable, fun and actually worth it. It is a pretty great little side hustle.
This post will include:
- ✅ How to start your Poshmark closet the right way.
- ✅ The simple daily habits that will make all the difference.
- ✅ How to stay consistent without turning Poshmark into a full time job.
- ✅ Important tips for great customer service.
I find the Poshmark platform to be easy to navigate, intuitive and super user friendly. I have not had trouble using it at all, and if you are familiar with my level if IT expertise, you would know that that is a very good thing! Just jump into the app and get started. If I can do it, you can do it. And I really mean that! (I know everyone says that.😂)
Step 1.
Create a strong closet profile. Your profile allows shoppers to know you are legit. Make it welcoming and professional. Make sure to use a clear profile picture. Write a short bio, letting your personality shine through. Include important info such as smoke free home, fast shipping etc. Make sure you have connected all your payment info.
As far as inventory is concerned, start with what you already own that you no longer wear. You do not need thrift hauls or a huge pile of inventory to get started. I started with just 2 listings. 😊 Make sure the items you post are in great condition, clean, pressed and ready for a new home. If it is not in the kind of condition that you would expect as a buyer, don’t list it!
Step 2.
Learn the daily habits that truly matter. Consistency beats intensity every single time on Poshmark. Here is a list of non-negotiable habits that you need to develop if you want your closet to stay active, visible and successful.
- ✅ Share your closet at least twice daily every single day. Morning and evenings work well, but consistency is more important than the times you choose to share. Use the bulk sharing tool, it will save you a ton of time.
- ✅ List new items regularly. Poshmark loves fresh listings. You don’t need to list daily but you do need a schedule to keep yourself on track and accountable. An easy listing goal is 3-5 items per week. That is about where I am at this point. Small, steady listing keeps your closet active and will keep you from burning out.
- ✅ Respond quickly to offers, comments and questions. Check for offers once in the morning and once in the evening. Make offers to likers and respond to offers from buyers. Answer questions promptly and politely. Buyers notice.
- ✅ Share other people’s listings. Community sharing helps visibility, but you don’t need to overdo it. There is a school of thought among poshers who do this for a living and do very well, that it is not necessary at all. So I don’t do it as much as I used to, but why not share a few listings when you are sharing your own? I always appreciate a share from a fellow seller.
Step 3.
Create a daily Poshmark routine. It needn’t take more than 15-20 minutes twice daily. Each morning and each evening share your entire closet, check for any new offers and respond to them, respond to any comments you may have from potential buyers, send offers to likers and share a few community listings. That’s it, done! This is a realistic routine that works , you do not need hours per day. You will, of course spend a little more time when you are listing, but even that does not require a big time commitment. Consistency over perfection is key.
Step 4.
The proper pricing of your items is so important! Pricing should be simple and strategic. Keep fees in mind. For items under $15, Poshmark takes a flat $2.95 fee. For items over $15, they take 20%. Your price needs to leave room for profit. Check sold listings to see what buyers are actually paying for similar items. Most sellers, me included, list about 10-20% higher as buyers expect to negotiate. Use common price points such as $15, $25 and so on so your items appear in search filters and prices ending in 5 or 9 are more appealing to buyers for some reason. Your original listing price is not set in stone. Prices can be raised or lowered by you at any time.
Step 5.
Give yourself grace. Life happens, illness happens, burnout happens. This doesn’t just apply to Poshmark by the way. Missing a few days here or there will not ruin your closet. When you fall off the horse, get back on…..she will be waiting for you. 😊 Restart with one share, one listing, one small action. Your momentum will return sooner than you may think.
Customer service matters! Listed below are things I have learned over the past 5 years that I have operated my Poshmark closet.
- ✅ Packaging matters!! Packaging is part of the buyer experience. When someone receives their package they are deciding, is this seller professional? Does he/she care about the product they put out? Would I buy from them again? Great packaging means clean and neat, secure packing, thoughtful but simple. Use tissue paper with ribbon or clear poly bags, fold items neatly, no strong odors such as perfume or smoke, use pretty mailers and boxes in good condition. Thank you notes or thank you stickers go a long way. Always use them!
- ✅ Highly detailed and accurate product descriptions in your listings matter!! Include as much info as possible, honest description of the condition of the item, information about colors as we know things don’t always photograph true to color, complete fabric content information and list as many measurements as you can. This not only helps your customer make a decision but it also helps you as you won’t have as many questions to answer when your buyers have all the info they need at hand. I think it is important for your buyer to know the condition of the home where the item has been stored, I always include “Very clean, smoke free, pet free home” at the end of my descriptions.
- ✅ Consistently prompt shipping matters!! Shipping quickly is one of the best ways to stand out on Poshmark. I always aim to ship the day following the purchase at the latest whenever possible, I sometimes even get it done the same day! Rapid shipping results in buyer confidence, better ratings and repeat customers.
- ✅ Great photos of your items matters!! Take good clear shots in good lighting. Photograph the front, the back, brand and size tags, special details such as smocking or flowy sleeves and up close shots of the color and the pattern of the fabric. Include photos of the washing instructions tag and the fabric content tag. If there are any worn spots or small flaws it is super important to include photos of them so you won’t have any return issues. If one picture in particular depicts the color most accurately, make sure you include that information in your description.

Starting a Poshmark closet is fun, simple and well worth your time. Running it well comes down to good habits. Share daily, list consistently, respond promptly, package thoughtfully and ship quickly. Small habits done consistently is how a Poshmark closet grows! Yay!!! I just sold a jacket while I was working on this post!!! 💲💲
