Packing Hacks That Will Save Space, Time & Stress: 10+ Genius Tips
Peak travel season is upon us and so many of you will take short jaunts or long adventures in the upcoming months and some of you jet set year round. No matter the time of year or the length of your journey, packing is a big part of the preparation. Smart packing is key. Nail it and you will arrive prepared, organized and ready to enjoy every moment of your trip.
I have linked my luggage set and my packing cubes below .
Invest in a nice set of luggage. It is worth every penny. It is much easier to prepare and pack for a specific trip when you have a variety of pieces and sizes of luggage to choose from. You may also wish to invest in a nice travel backpack if you are in need of an additional carry-on piece. Make sure to keep your medications with you in the event that your luggage does not arrive when you do.
Always use packing cubes. These little zip bags are genius and you can easily pack so many more items due to their compression qualities. Separate your clothes by category and you just need to pull out the right cube! I don’t know how I ever packed without them!
Never, ever wait until the last minute to pack! This is only inviting trouble. Lay your suitcase out up to a week before you leave and start gathering items you want to take with you. Put some thought into the outfits you need to pack, shoes and other accessories. You will be much more likely not to forget anything you need and you will also be less likely to take up valuable space in your luggage with things you don’t need or won’t use.

Always roll your clothing when packing, do not fold it. Rolled clothing takes up much less space in your packing cube and your clothes arrive at your destination much less wrinkled and ready to wear. Of course, you should always hang your clothing when you arrive.

When considering what to pack, plan by outfit, not by item. Consider what you need to complete each outfit such as shoes, undergarments, jewelry or any other accessories you may need. You will be much more likely to have everything you need when using this approach. You will avoid overpacking and you will be able to get ready for each day more quickly and with less stress.

Always keep a supply of travel size toiletry items on hand at home. This will avoid any last minute trips to the store when you are packing. Keep a master list of medications and other needed medical items on hand at all times. Keep it updated with current medications and other needed items such as bug spray and sunscreen so you can refer to it when packing. You do not want to arrive at your destination and not have the items you need to feel your best on hand. Quick tip for those who travel with CPAP machines. The SmartWater brand that you can find in any convenience store works perfectly in your machine and you do not have to purchase a large quantity of water.

I don’t find it necessary to purchase laundry or shoe bags for travel. I bring a scented kitchen sized garbage bag for dirty laundry and pack shoes individually in small scented garbage liners. This way you don’t have a laundry bag or shoe bags to clean when you get home and your luggage has a light, pleasant scent. Win win!

Zip Lock bags of all sizes are your friends! Use them to keep items such as fragrances, lotions and serums from leaking in your luggage. Use them to store small items such as earphones, adapters and chargers. Use them to organize your jewelry by outfit, store hair ties and pins and pack small snacks for the hotel. Keep a couple of gallon sized ones in your luggage in case you find yourself having to pack wet swimsuits or any other wet items.

Pack one or two foldable tote bags when you go. This way you have a way to bring any purchases home with you that you may not be able to fit in your luggage. Who among us has not had this problem? 😂 Airlines allow one carry-on and one personal item per passenger so you should be able to consolidate your items to accommodate the tote if necessary.
When packing, be sure to include a card on the inside of each checked bag that lists your name, your address and your phone number. This will come in very handy in the unlikely event that your luggage is lost and your exterior luggage tag has been torn off.
Packing smart doesn’t have to be stressful. With a few clever hacks such as rolling your clothes, using packing cubes, and planning your outfits ahead of time you can save space, stay organized and travel with ease. Happy travels!
