The Best Ever Guide To A Well Stocked Linen Closet

It is so satisfying to open your linen closet and seeing everything you need in it’s proper place. Especially if you are like me and are a wee bit nuts about the organization and appearance of the spaces in your home. There is something about the properly folded towels, matching sheet sets and all the backup essentials perfectly arranged that bring visual calm. A well stocked, well organized linen closet saves you time, reduces stress and makes your household run more smoothly.

Whether you are a newbie to running your own household or if you have decided that it is time for a long overdue refresh, this guide will help you put together a linen closet that provides everything you need and is visually appealing and well organized.

A well organized linen closet matters for several reasons. You save time by being able to quickly grab what you need without digging through piles of stuff. It is economical as you will always know what you have and what you need so you are not purchasing things you don’t need. It just plain feels good. Having your essentials at your fingertips is a small but impactful form of self-care.

Step 1: Declutter and take inventory. Get rid of any worn out or stained sheets, any threadbare towels, lumpy pillows and blankets that are no longer soft and cozy. Make a Keep pile, a Donate pile and a Toss pile. Think about how much of it you use and how much you realistically need. The rule of thumb for most household is 2-3 sets of sheets per bed and 2-3 sets of towels (bath, hand & wash) per person, and 1-2 extra blankets. It is always a good idea to have towel and blanket back-ups and a few beach towels in your inventory also .Don’t forget, a high quality, protective mattress pad. Pretty quilts can add charm and comfort too.

Step 2: Give your space a good cleaning, wipe down all the shelves, add shelf liners if you are so inclined and consider adding some baskets or bins to organize some of the smaller things. Step 3: Organize your things by category. Bed linens and blankets always neatly stacked and folded, towels either folded uniformly or rolled, toiletries and guest extras put away neatly in baskets or clear bins. You may have seasonal items such as holiday bedding and heavier blankets and extra pillows. Use the upper and lower shelves to store items you don’t use often. Some extras that are nice to have on hand are specific guest sheets and towels, a bin of travel sized toiletries, first aid essentials and extra toilet paper and tissues. Step 4: Now for the fun part, restocking the needed essentials! Who doesn’t love fresh new sheets, cozy blankets and throws and pretty absorbent new towels. This can be especially fun if you are doing a little bit of redecorating. We recently stayed at a super charming hotel and they had, hands down, the nicest sheets I have EVER slept on. I went on a mission to find out exactly what they were and I have a set arriving next week.😁 Another thing they provided were black washcloths for removing make-up-genius! Step 5: Now that you have a beautiful, well stocked linen closet, make sure you maintain it. Keep everything organized, properly folded and well stocked! Try to maintain a rotation system by placing the freshly laundered items in the back or at the bottom of the stack. This will ensure that you will have even wear and tear and things will always smell fresh.

Just a few more thoughts in conclusion, I have always loved nice linen things and have always had the nicest things I could afford. You should treat yourself to the nicest things you can afford too, it is worth every penny and you deserve it. You can’t put a price on a comfortable bed , soft absorbent towels, cozy blankets and the feeling of warmth and well being they provide. They are lightweight, comfortable and keep you cool in the summer and plenty warm in the winter. Hands down the best type of blanket you can put on your bed!
